Privacy Policy
Restlane is an AI sleep coach. This policy explains what data is processed, where it is hosted, how long it is kept, and how to export or delete it.
1. Controller and contact
Restlane is published by Hugo CRENEAU, who is the data controller. For questions about your personal data: [email protected]. For general questions: [email protected].
2. What Restlane does
Restlane helps you understand your nights through daily check-ins (morning and evening), by voice or text. An AI coach replies with simple tips. The app also shows your history, trends, and a weekly review.
Restlane is not a medical device. It does not diagnose conditions, offer treatment, or clinically measure your sleep.
3. Data processed
- Account: email address and sign-in method (email, Google, or Apple), handled by our authentication provider.
- Onboarding answers: goal, usual schedule, morning energy, main sleep obstacle.
- Check-ins: the text you write or the transcript of your voice messages, and the coach's replies.
- Signals extracted from check-ins: energy level, sleep quality, bedtime and wake time, factors (stress, screens, caffeine, etc.).
- Weekly reviews and trends computed from those signals.
- Optional health summary (see section 5), only if you allow it.
- Subscription status, provided by Superwall and the app stores.
- App usage measurements (Amplitude), without the content of your check-ins.
- Hashed technical identifiers, used for security and abuse prevention.
4. Voice messages and AI
When you record a voice check-in, the audio is sent to our server and then to OpenAI only to be transcribed. Restlane does not keep the audio: only the transcript is stored.
To generate coach replies and the weekly review, the text of your check-ins and useful context (profile, recent signals) are sent to OpenAI. These requests are made with the option asking OpenAI not to store the generated response ("store: false"). Your data is not used for advertising and is never sold.
Coach replies are general and non-medical. If you have a health concern, talk to a professional.
5. Apple Health and Health Connect
Health import is optional. If you allow it, the app reads sleep, steps, and workouts from the last 14 days on your phone. Raw entries never leave your phone.
Only a summary is sent: for each category, a range of the number of days with data (none, 1 to 3, 4 to 7, 8 to 14). This summary is only used to tailor tips. See the Health data page for details.
6. Purposes
- Create and secure your account.
- Transcribe your voice check-ins.
- Generate coach replies, history, trends, and the weekly review.
- Manage your subscription.
- Protect the service against abuse and limit costs (quotas).
- Understand overall app usage to improve it, without check-in content.
7. Hosting and processors
Restlane does not sell your data. It is processed by the following providers, only to operate the service:
- Hetzner (Germany, European Union): server hosting the Restlane API and its database.
- Supabase (Zurich region, Switzerland): authentication and sign-in account. Switzerland benefits from an EU adequacy decision.
- OpenAI (United States): voice transcription and coach replies.
- Superwall, Apple App Store, and Google Play: offers, purchases, and subscriptions. Restlane has no access to your payment details.
- Amplitude: app usage measurement (screens viewed, steps completed), without check-in content, IP address, or location.
- Cloudflare (R2): storage of encrypted backup copies.
When data is transferred outside the European Union, in particular to the United States, these transfers rely on GDPR safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
8. Security and backups
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). The database is backed up twice a day. Backups are kept for 14 days on the server, with restricted access, and an encrypted copy is sent to Cloudflare R2, where it is kept for 30 days.
9. Retention
- Your data is kept as long as your account exists.
- When you delete your account, your data is erased from the Restlane database and your sign-in account is deleted.
- Existing backups still contain this data: server backups are erased after 14 days. Encrypted off-site copies are stored on Cloudflare R2 and erased after 30 days.
- Free trial without an account. To set up the trial, the app sends your onboarding answers (goal, bedtime and wake time, energy level, main sleep obstacle) and, if you allowed it, a coarse summary of your Health data (number of days with sleep, step and workout data over 14 days), plus an installation identifier that we store only in irreversibly hashed form. These answers and that summary are automatically deleted no later than 31 days after the trial session expires. If the trial was not used, the whole session is deleted within the same period. If it was used, we keep only the hashed installation identifier, the trial status, platform, app version and dates, for as long as needed to enforce one free trial per device. Backups may still contain this data until they expire (14 days on the server, 30 days for the encrypted copies on Cloudflare R2).
- Voice check-in audio is not kept.
- Raw Apple Health or Health Connect entries are never stored by Restlane.
10. Your rights: export and deletion
From the Account tab in the app, you can:
- export your data (a JSON file with your profile, messages, signals, and weekly reviews);
- delete your account and your data. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription: manage it in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
You can also exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and portability by writing to [email protected]. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).
11. Children
Restlane is not intended for children. If a minor sent us data by mistake, write to [email protected] to have it deleted.
12. Changes
This policy may change with the service or the law. The date at the top of the page shows the current version.
